Best VPS for FiveM in 2026 — What Actually Matters
I ran a FiveM RP server before I started Galaxy Cloud Solutions. So when someone asks me what VPS to use for FiveM, I actually know the answer from running one — not just from reading specs sheets.
The short version: most VPS providers will work fine. But there are a few specific things that will silently wreck your FiveM server if you don't know to check for them. This guide covers what actually matters.
⚡ We have a one-click FiveM QBCore installer — from $10/mo, use code LAUNCH2026 for 50% offThe One Thing Most Guides Don't Tell You: CPU Type
FiveM's Linux server binary requires x86-64-v2 CPU instructions — specifically POPCNT. Most modern physical CPUs support this. The problem is VPS providers often present a generic "kvm64" CPU type to virtual machines, which deliberately omits some of these instructions for compatibility reasons.
If your VPS is using kvm64, FiveM will refuse to start with this error:
The Cfx.re Platform Server requires support for x86-64-v2 instructions.
You seem to be running on QEMU/KVM using the 'kvm64' CPU type.
The fix is to use "host passthrough" CPU mode — where the VM gets the actual CPU capabilities of the physical server. Most major VPS providers do this by default. Some don't. Before you sign up anywhere, check that they support host CPU passthrough or that their default VM configuration doesn't use kvm64.
How Much RAM Do You Actually Need?
Here's the honest breakdown:
| Server Size | RAM | Plan | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-5 players, vanilla | 2GB | Nebula 2 ($10/mo) | Works but tight with QBCore |
| 5-20 players, QBCore | 4GB | Galaxy 1 ($20/mo) | Comfortable sweet spot |
| 20-50 players, QBCore + mods | 8GB | Galaxy 2 ($35/mo) | Recommended for active servers |
| 50+ players | 16GB | Supernova ($65/mo) | Serious RP server territory |
Don't try to run QBCore on 1GB. The framework alone needs room to breathe, and once you add players, their data, and your scripts, 1GB will OOM-kill your server constantly.
Storage: How Much Do You Need?
FiveM servers are surprisingly light on storage. The base server artifacts are about 200MB. QBCore and your resources will add another 1-2GB. Your database will grow over time but slowly. For most servers, 20-40GB SSD is more than enough. Where storage matters is if you're running a lot of custom vehicle packs or map mods — those can get large fast.
Bandwidth: The Hidden Cost at Some Providers
FiveM servers aren't bandwidth-heavy by game server standards — you're looking at maybe 5-15 Mbps for an active server with 20-30 players. The issue is providers like AWS Lightsail charge $0.09/GB for bandwidth overages. At active server levels, that adds up fast.
Look for providers with generous included bandwidth. Our plans include 500GB-5TB depending on the tier, which is more than enough for most FiveM servers.
Location: Where Should Your Server Be?
Put the server where your players are. If your RP community is in the US, a US-based server gives you the lowest ping. European players will feel a US server — typical transatlantic latency is 80-120ms, which is borderline acceptable for FiveM but not ideal.
Galaxy Cloud Solutions is US-based, which is right for most English-speaking RP communities. If you're running a European server, Hetzner or UpCloud are worth looking at for their European infrastructure.
txAdmin: Make Sure You Can Access the Panel
txAdmin runs on a web port (default 40120) that needs to be accessible from the internet. Some providers block non-standard ports by default and require you to manually open firewall rules. Make sure your provider either has an easy firewall management UI or doesn't block ports by default.
Our one-click FiveM installer automatically opens the txAdmin port and creates the necessary firewall rules. You don't have to touch anything.
My Actual Recommendation
✅ For most FiveM servers: Galaxy Cloud Solutions Galaxy 1 ($20/mo)
4 vCPU, 4GB RAM, 80GB SSD, 2TB bandwidth. Host CPU passthrough enabled. One-click QBCore installer included. US-based with Cloudflare DDoS protection. This is what I'd run a small-to-medium RP server on. Use code LAUNCH2026 for 50% off your first month.
For very small servers (just you and a few friends, light scripts): the Nebula 2 at $10/mo works. For serious servers with 30+ regular players: Galaxy 2 at $35/mo gives you the headroom.
The providers I'd avoid for FiveM: anything with kvm64 CPU type that you can't change, anything with bandwidth billing above $0.01/GB overage, and anything where you can't easily open custom ports.
One-click FiveM QBCore installer included
All Galaxy Cloud Solutions VPS plans include our one-click FiveM QBCore installer. MariaDB, QBCore framework, txAdmin — all configured automatically. You get an email with your server details when it's ready. Use code LAUNCH2026 for 50% off your first month.
